Woo! Free Poem!
Nov. 1st, 2004 01:27 pmLast week I was told that I had to write three poems by Monday. Yeah. So I sat down this weekend at some ungodly hour [insomnia rocks, I guess, as far as doing things you put off goes] and typed off three. Just because, I'm going to post one here and then go take a nap. Tell me what you think-- I've got just about no self-confidence whatsoever as far as my writing goes, so I'd like to know what people think. And now I go to sleep. Or to the mailroom, I guess... whichever is easier.
Everything you’ve wasted on yourself…
It’s an empty room
No windows, nothing to see
If you look outside
All the doors are locked
You have no key, no way out
But nowhere to go
People come and leave
You are the only constant
You are the center
Nothing in the room
Nothing except what you bring
Or what’s left behind
Alone in a crowd
Left to your own devices
Where does the time go?
Small disappointments
Opportunities not taken
These don’t trouble you
All that matters now
Is filling the emptiness…
Everything you’ve wasted on yourself…
It’s an empty room
No windows, nothing to see
If you look outside
All the doors are locked
You have no key, no way out
But nowhere to go
People come and leave
You are the only constant
You are the center
Nothing in the room
Nothing except what you bring
Or what’s left behind
Alone in a crowd
Left to your own devices
Where does the time go?
Small disappointments
Opportunities not taken
These don’t trouble you
All that matters now
Is filling the emptiness…

I like it. And if you want a more unbiased opinion, my suitemate Melissa [an English major] said that it was "quite good."
[Also? Get out of my head! I think I could have written a poem with the same idea, only not quite so eloquently.]
