Oct. 18th, 2005 12:28 amFirst, a story.
A rich man asked a Zen master to write something down that could encourage the prosperity of his family for years to come. It would be something that the family could cherish for generations. On a large piece of paper, the master wrote, "Father dies, son dies, grandson dies."
The rich man became angry when he saw the master's work. "I asked you to write something down that could bring happiness and prosperity to my family. Why do you give me something depressing like this?"
"If your son should die before you," the master answered, "this would bring unbearable grief to your family. If your grandson should die before your son, this also would bring great sorrow. If your family, generation after generation, disappears in the order I have described, it will be the natural course of life. This is true happiness and prosperity."
My grandfather is dying.
I went to go see him today. He told me he’d buy me a Fig Newton factory, because we both love Fig Newtons.
I don’t know what I’m going to do. I’ll walk Grandma and Grandpa’s dog a lot, and go see them a lot, and we’ll take it from there.

I read that you need to know what hair color Rita Skeeter has.
It seems to be blond.

Date: 2005-10-18 08:21 pm (UTC)Awwww honey, I'm sorry. That's always so hard... I lost my grandfather a few years ago myself.
I wore your scarf today, randomly, and I thought about you a lot, including how you wrote 'Francesca "Fig" Newton' on the mailing address. Seems a little... purposeful, I don't know.
You're in my thoughts, I guess, is what I am trying ineptly to say.

Date: 2005-10-19 05:42 am (UTC)I usually do most of my raging internally and all of my crying locked in the bathroom, but I really really appreciate the offer.
Best thing you can do? Make me laugh. Tell me stupid jokes. Your link in your away message made me laugh so hard I fell out of my rolly chair.

Yeah, I'd forgotten about that, the package and everything. It helps, knowing that you are thinking of me. :]
