HOLY. FREAKING. CRAP.

So. After holding out for quite some time, I finally gave in and watched the Episode III trailer. Yeah.
Dude. Just... DUDE.
You know, I was so disappointed by the first two prequels. They were missing whatever it was that drew me to the original three. [Well, Obi-Wan was MUCH better-looking, I'll give it that. :D]I had tried not to get too attached to Ep III because I didn't wan't to be disappointed again.
But today, while in Winn-Dixie, I saw a box of Cheezits with Darth Vader's mask on them, and I nearly lost it in the middle of the aisle. "HOLYFREAKINGCRAPIT'SDARTHVADERONTHECHEEZITSOMGOMG!" Mom gave me The Look but Dad understood. He went and saw A New Hope in the very front row the day it came out.
This movie... well, the trailer, at least... looks good. No visible signs of JarJar. Lotsa lightsabers. Wookies. Explosions. Yoda being zapped by Palpatine. Wookies.
And Oh. My. God. That last scene? The glimpse of Vader Armor? It made me squeak.
Again, OMG. The brief glimpse of the volcano scene with Anakin and Obi-Wan? I'll be rather vague for those of you who didn't spend your childhood absorbing anything Star Wars related, but... That Scene. The hurt in Obi's voice. Guh. GUH. [eeeee!]
I'll probably be left with a bitter taste in my mouth after seeing Ep III, but Man. Oh. Man. While I'm watching it, I will be in a very happy place.

You know, the first trilogy can be your baby... but at least the prequels gave you an extended look at the Star Wars world. You got to see things only mentioned by ANH Obi and Luke. Maybe you could appreciate them for that at least. And the Obi/Maul fight. :D

I'll be the first to admit the first trilogy had weak points. And I do appreciate the look at the extended world. I really liked the fight scenes. ESPECIALLY the Obi/Maul fight.
I'm one of those majorly nitpicky people though. As soon as I saw Anakin] building C3P0, I freaked. "What the-- but... he said... that one time..." I rationalized that he could have had his memory wiped [which would have intensified the irony when Unka Owen told Luke to wipe the droid's memories] but even so. Even so.
We won't get into questions about certain people's acting abilities [coughNataliecoughHaydencough]. The music? OMGSOGOOD. The visuals? OMGSOGOOD. The adherence to canon? ...Not so good. [Uncle Owen's... really Luke's UNCLE? WHAAA? But... isn't he Obi's BROTHER? Seriously, if you'd been in the theater with us, you'd have heard the pop of my continuity-obsessed brain exploding.]
However. I'm gonna give it the benefit of the doubt. I still can watch I and II, even though I shout at the screen a bit. But then, I shout at the screen a bit during the parts I like [coughObi-Wancoughcough] so... eh.
I'll still be one of those fanatics camped out the night before in my little tent, cooking my ravioli over sterno, don't worry. :D

Date: 2005-04-04 09:06 pm (UTC)Oh, I'll give you the acting abilities thing. God awful. The only consolation to that is at least they can act out of Star Wars. Everyone else is pretty strong though. I think (and I’m kinda biased, but I can be pretty judgmental about actors, even My Guy) that Ewan does a great job with what he has. Not exactly the meatiest script, but he seems to be a ease with it all and has fun. I think he would have done Alec proud.
And the Owen being Obi’s brought was just error in printing. Early scripts had Owen as Obi’s brother, and the JA books mentioned it briefly. Personally, I think it’s better for Owen to be Anakin’s stepbrother. Makes me more meaningful...

Date: 2005-04-04 09:40 pm (UTC)My Star Wars Encyclopedia [yes, I have a Star Wars Encyclopedia-- what?] has Owen listed as Obi's brother. It's from sometime back before the prequels. Gah.
I do think that Ewan does a terrific job in all of them so far. In fact, I wanted to spend more time watching him than watching Anakin or Amidala.
Why won't May come any sooner?!
[Love the icon, btw...]
