You'll shoot your eye out.
Dec. 11th, 2004 09:45 pmAh, there's nothing quite like going to a lot to pick out that extra-special Christmas tree for your living room... which is why we get one from our backyard. There are benefits to living way out there. No really close neighbors, excellent view of the stars, and free Christmas trees. Let the gloating commence.
I love our tree. As of yet, it hasn't been decorated; we just have this honking big tree in the middle of our library. But that's kind of nice. It will be nice when it is covered in lights and ornaments [from stuff my great grandmother put on her tree to that... interesting ornament my brother brought home from school last year] and tinsel... but I kinda like the bare tree. Hmm.
I hate being pegged down and made to tell exactly what I want for Christmas. I never know. I've been given an ultimatum and three magazines. I have to have things picked out by tomorrow or else. Fun stuff.
We watched "A Christmas Story" today. Heh. So great.
And gAHHAHDAHHAGHRAITGHRIHTYAHYB I$HTAIHAIYHA
And what is this I hear about "Earthsea?" Are they really going to be ruining one of my favorite book series..es [what is the plural on that, anyway? Anyone?] from my childhood? GAH! [On reflection, I read a lot of strange stuff as a kid. Hmm.] Don't even get me started on this, I could rant for hours. And I probably will. Kristen Kreuk? As Tenar? Tenar? Wasn't that... the second book? So this miniseries will encompass all... five books? [Oh, god, please not the last one. GAH. Reading that one was bad enough. I used up a year's supply of mental eye bleach. Don't make me use up my physical eye bleach, SciFi. Please.]
NO! NO FREAKING WAY! NOOOOO... FREAKING... WAY!!! Ged... is... who now? SHAWN ASHMORE ???? GAH! They're doing this to me just to get my blood pressure up, I'm sure. I've got to watch, no question about that, but I will be physically incapable of witholding my ire. GAHHHHH! Barring the fact that Ged is supposed to be at least medium- if not dark-skinned, do we really want this guy to play him? Yeah, he was great in X-Men, but... could he be Ged? I'm not so sure.
I'm so tired of this. I've had to sit and watch as some of my favorite books get slaughtered on the big screen or in the miniseries. Dune, the third Harry Potter Book, The Lord of the Rings series [hey, before you stone me, I liked the movies. I LOVED the movies. But... they left out my favorite parts. They left out everything that made the book and its characters great. So let me release my anger here, ok?], the list goes on and on. Please, SciFi. Don't make me add the Earthsea trilogy.. er, quartet.. er... can I just leave the last one [Tehanu, also known as Earthsea: The Sequel Written 20 Years After All The Other Ones Professing Totally Opposing Views From the First One In Addition To Being Horribly Written, In Addition To Being Very Very Much OC And Containing Mary Sues, also known as Earthsea: The Abomination to fans] totally out of this?
And damn. I just went to comingsoon.net, and it's all a love story between Tenar and Ged. Great. So. First book pretty much out the window, then? Because Tenar didn't even show until the second book, and... *sigh* I'm giving up now. I really can't take it anymore. If, on Monday evening, you hear the Sound Of Ultimate Suffering, I'm watching Earthsea. And wishing for eyebleach.
*sobs quietly into tattered, dogeared copies of "A Wizard Of Earthsea" and "The Tombs of Atuan" and gleefully burns "Tehanu"*
