So I finally watched Neverwhere. (Thank you, YouTube!)

And OMG it was so much better than I thought it would be! Of course it helped my expectations were lowered by everyone telling me that it was totally crap and grainy and bad special effects and 90's background music, but wow. SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE GRAPHIC NOVEL, in which Carabbas was frankly quite terrifyingly odd and looked like a Dairy Queen commercial, and Door looked like a cheap knockoff of Death of the Endless. And I have a whole new level of respect for Croup and Vandemar, somewhat akin to my whole new level of respect for Arthur Dent after watching the BBC Hitchhiker's Guide.

And two of the Neverwhere cast have played Beatles, which just adds more awesomeness to any scene with Richard and Islington. And I want a Marquis de Carabbas. May I have one, pretty please?

I'm somewhat disturbed to see that there may be a new movie in the makings, though. All I ask is that Chiwetel Ejiofor plays the Marquis, and I'm happy. Oooh, and Gina Torres could play Hunter!

"Well, it's kind of like a water buffalo. See?"

"Ohhhh.

Seriously though, it's a pretty awesome book. Neil Gaiman is very close to being my very favorite author ever.

Synopsis: "Richard Mayhew is a plain man with a good heart-- and an ordinary life that is changed forever on a day he stops to help a girl he finds bleeding on a London sidewalk. From that moment forward he is propelled into a world he never dreamed existed-- a dark subculture flourishing in abandoned subway stations and sewer tunnels below the city-- a world far stranger and more dangerous than the only one he has ever known..."
