You do! If I weren't currently coughing my lungs out, no doubt I'd be off doing *gasp* productive things. I can't think of any off the top of my head, but I'm sure I'd be doing them and not actively searching for excellent fanfic.
Where I'm from: Various places, but I've settled down in central Alabama in this really ridiculously small town.
What I do: Not a whole lot. I've just (the month of May still counts as "just," right?) graduated from college with a writing degree, so that's exciting, but I really haven't gone anywhere from there. I work at a wildlife conservation organization, which is super nifty, and means I get to work outside, which unfortunately isn't as fun in the middle of winter or summer. But it's absolutely gorgeous right now, what with spring and all.
All that jazz: Lessee. I watch more television than is probably good for me, but I read more than I watch tv so it all evens out. I can play several instruments half-assedly. I can make really good shortbread cookies. I have two ferrets. Anything else you'd like to know?
Hm, you and those ferrets looking for any visitors? My spring break just started today, got a week off...would love to just pick up and get out of town for a week. I'm actually slightly serious.
Spring always brings out these feelings in me, like I should just pick up and leave. Er, that's a lie, I always have these feelings, spring just makes 'em worse. Generally I ignore them, but I do have an interesting history of one-way plane tickets. I have managed to be very responsible about my capriciousness, which I take pride in.
I'm a second-year student at university (University of Maryland, go Terps!), where I'm studying botany and genetics. I am in constant danger of becoming a boring scientist, which is, I suppose, where the wanderlust stems from--sort of a preventative measure. I love plants, I love working in my lab, watching TV, writing, nature, traveling, getting drunk off my ass and lolling around the flat, cooking spicy food, and all other sorts of things.
Oh no! I hate to disappoint, but I'm spending a large chunk of my spring break away from home. :[
I understand the spring wanderlust. And the wanderlust in general. If I had the money I'd wander the world in a Winnebago. Er. Those bits of the world reachable by Winnebago. Ooh, one-way plane tickets? Sounds like a good story.
Terps--that'd be the Maryland Terrapins. Terrapins are turtles, and our state animal...I don't know, I guess all the good animals were already taken. I guess we're still better than UCSD--the Banana Slugs. No lie!
That one-way ticket was to London last summer. Had the chance of a lifetime--someone who lived within spitting distance of Big Ben (literally! #1 St. James Place!) needed house sitting, and my best friend has connections. We had a penthouse apartment and a stipend to blow; it was the best week of my life. We took trains across the country in every direction, all the way to the cliffs of Dover. Got pissed in pubs, toured Kew Gardens, ate lots and lots of chips.
That's what I want my life to be...one trip like that after the other. It's a shame a person's got to get a job and settle down. I'm still trying to find a way out of that noose...
Interesting! There's a local high school here whose football team is the Poets. Not quite as cool as Terrapins. Or Banana Slugs! I'd go there just for the team name.
Ooooh. You are so incredibly lucky! And I'm jealous. I got to go on a trip to London as part of my tuition at college (our mascot was the Hawks, still not as cool as Banana Slugs or Terrapins) and that was the most fantastic time I've had ever.
My way out: become famous novelist, make lots of money, have friends with apartments all over the world. We'll see how that goes.
Haha, I don't know about making lots of money...but the great thing about lj is that you *do* have friends with flats all over the (english-speaking) world. I plan on doing as much couch-surfing as I can all through college.
Plans. Let's see. I get sweaty-palmed when I think too much about the future. But I'm definitely moving to an apartment in Birmingham sometime around May. I have a screenplay I'm trying to turn into a novel, and something I wrote for NaNoWriMo that I'm trying to turn into a novel. Exciting, yes?
One of my editors does nanowrimo; she went AWOL for a month, thought she was dead, then she comes back with a novel. I should do fanfic nanowrimo, then people would actually have something to read instead of having to wait for years between chapters...
Yeah, my future is...full of stuff. Just lots of stuff to do. Better than nothing to do, I guess, but it gets kind of daunting.

What does "Terps" stand for?
