I just caused myself to have a near-coronary. Thanks once again, internet! You make my health level much dodgier with every day!
While looking for the title of David [and Leigh] Eddings' new book series [The Dreamers, btw], I found a site summary that mentioned casting for... drumroll... the Belgariad/Mallorean characters.

Moment of panic.

When I checked it, it was just the same old thing that I'd seen years ago [although it mentioned that David doesn't want his books turned into movies, the silly brilliant man], with suggestions of Catherine Zeta-Jones or Sandra Bullock as Polgara, and Heath Ledger as Garion, and Sean Connery [!] as Belgarath. [Of course, then there were the fun ones, like Tommy Lee Jones as Ctuchik and Carrie Fisher as Poledra.]

That started me thinking. Do these people have accents? Well, obviously the Murgos do, but what about the main characters? Are they British-sounding? The Sendars are obviously American [practical and prudish, that's us!], and the author's from Spokane, but... augh. I always picture the Sendars as being various shades of British, and the Arends are very very British [or maybe French, come to think], and the Algars all look Native American in my head... but I really don't know.

Each time I read it, I change who I'd cast for each of the characters.

This time, Polgara is now Carrie Anne Moss, and Durnik is Christopher Eccleston.

Silk's still up in the air for this time 'round, but I've got a sort of Johnny-Depp-as-Jack-Sparrow-but-less-piratey thing in my head. There need to be more small acrobatic weasel-faced men with really good acting skills out there, I guess.

Also, I love my mom.

Alex: Hey, this song's perfect for Captain Jack.
Mom: ...Sparrow?
Alex: No, Harkness! You know, the pretty one?
Mom: Which pretty one?
Alex: The Doctor Who pretty one.
Mom: *face of concentration*
Alex: You know, the one that looks like Gibbs.
Mom: What?
Alex: The one that looks like Young Gibbs.
Mom: Wait, are you talking about that guy?
Alex: I don't know, which guy?
Mom: That guy. The, you know, action guy. The Mac guy.
Alex: Um.
Mom: That MacGuyver guy.
Alex: What?
Mom: What?
