Oct. 27th, 2004 10:57 amSo. I just sat through a one hour class in which I was told what to think. I was told that this is the only possible way for rational people to think, and that to think otherwise would be treason to my very soul. I was told that my own personal beliefs, beliefs that [for the most part] I have come to of my own free will, are what will sooner rather than later bring about the end of our civilization as we know it. I've been told that people who think the way I do are just blindly following and are not thinking for themselves at all. Funny, that seems to me to be exactly what these people are telling me to do. Think what we tell you, and you will be okay. I've been told that only by certain actions can I save the country, no, the world. You know, for some crazy reason, I had thought that I was living in a democracy, where preservation of diverse beliefs was a good thing. Boy, am I dumb! Who needs differences? Sameness is what we've got to have! Yay for conformity! Down with independant thought!

words of advice from the simpsons:
Date: 2004-10-27 09:43 am (UTC)Janey : Well, that was a waste of time.
Lisa : Janey, school is never a waste of time.
Ms. Hoover: Class, since we have fifteen minutes until recess, please put your pencils down and stare at the front of the room.
What class is this where you are told what to think? Who are the narrow-minded (and obliviously ironic) people telling you to think it? What in the name of Liberal Arts is going on here?!!
::droid-like voices, in unison:: Join us, Alex. Your thoughts are a product of an oppressed, regulated education. Come on over to our side where where you will always be informed about the correct schools of thought.
Independence, thy name is Alex! I hope you shot every one of their fallacious arguments to hell! Give them a good old-fashioned Latin cursing, "May all of your thoughts be undermined by faulty logic!" People like that make me want to become an extremist just to foster discord among the student body. "DOWN WITH BABIES" "DOWN WITH SCIENCE" "UP WITH DICTATORSHIP" That would confuse their itty bitty wittle bwains. Mwahaha.
Fabulous icon, by the way. :D

Date: 2004-10-27 12:00 pm (UTC)Seriously, though. Something is definitely wrong when you're told by a liberal arts professor that you don't need to think for yourself. That's my opinion, anyway...
And any badness from this morning? Render totally made it all go away... I guess there's something good in everyone....
