On this day, I took another giant step in fandom.

I bought Johnny Depp.

Of course, when I say I bought "Johnny Depp," what I mean is that I bought the life-size cardboard standup thingy of him as Captain Jack Sparrow. It's amazing. And it's so coming back to Huntingdon with me; I've just got to figure out how to keep him nonkidnapped over the next year.

To complete the obsessed look I'm apparently going for now, when I bought it I was wearing my [glow-in-the-dark] Pirates shirt. Salesclerk was a little leery of me.

Other news: finally bought and watched Time Bandits. Realized that the last ten minutes are the ten minutes of film that have haunted me since my very very young childhood, almost as horrifically scarring as the part on Ghost when the blobby shadow things take the bad guy away. Ick. Terry Gilliam is amazing. I must now track down and buy Brazil and Baron Munchausen. Anyone know if The Brothers Grimm is worth watching?

I've told you we have to see The Brothers Grimm. Maybe we can do so this week!

I'm just worried it won't measure up to his previous movies and I'll be disappointed and stuff.

Well, it's very much on crack, if that helps. And it has pretty mens in it.

Crack and the pretty are good... You haven't seen any of his other stuff, have you? I've probably asked you before, but I can't remember the answer.

I for one didn't like The Brothers Grimm. It's not completely horrible, but I wouldn't pay for a full price movie ticket to see it or rent it.

Yeah. I was kind of hoping someone else had it for whatever reason, because I seem to remember someone telling me it was in no way up to Gilliam's usual standard.

Anything particular you didn't like about it, or was it just general overall disliking?

I thought it went on too long; in fact, I found the pacing to be downright bad. The plot wanders a lot. It seemed like Gilliam went, "Oh, shit, we need to somehow tie together all of these fairy tales. Quick, let's thrown in a [spoiler]!" I also didn't find the special effects to be that impressive.

I liked Heath Ledger's character, though, and a couple of the monsters were pretty neat (the Gingerbread Man and a certain horse come to mind). Overall, the movie's okay as a popcorn flick and not much more.

I have no idea why the things that bothered me did. I love Gilliam's previous work, but for some reason, The Brothers Grimm just irritated me.

Hrm. I was afraid of something like that, which is probably why I didn't go see it when it was in theaters.

Fortunately the people who'd likely steal him will be living in the same place (yay!), so he won't go too far. He must have a place of honor. Like a pedestal. or a shrine. or something.

I agree with MK, he should be placed on a cardboard treasure chest.

I totally agree.

I was thinking that we could have a corner or something devoted to him, since Erica has the 18-or-so-inch version of him, and I've got my wonderful poster, and we can go from there. :D

$35 for Johnny Depp. A bargain, no?

He's fantastic. I propped him up against my wall for the meantime, and Leena thought he was real and barked frantically at him.

you don't even have to worry about your roommates stealing it because I am SOOOOOO getting it!!!! mwahahaha and I absolutely despise 'Brazil.' I had to watch it several times for Eng. comp 1 and grew to detest it. the opening music (which the prof left playing during the entire class for like 2 wks straight) was stuck in my head for 3 mths. >.< Brothers Grimm was pretty good, tho. :)

dude, have you seen the Jack Sparrow shirt Wal-mart has? they were out yesterday so i'm hoping i can find it online.

Hehe. I've seen the shiny one. I have a glow-in-the-dark one, Danny has a really cool spattered-looking artsy one. I also have a cursed Aztec gold medallion and Davy Jones' key because I am a big dork.
