Sickness abounds in the Pacheco-West household...

Gah. Urg. Bleah.

What I did today:

-Slept until 10:30 [ah, the extravagance!]

-Started "Jennifer Government," but I had to put it down... a combination of my brother, a violent headache, and barking dogs kept me from concentrating on it

-Waited for the mailman to bring my Stargate DVDs. They're coming from China, but apparently not today. :,

-Watched the Stargate movie [wow, the rare case in which the show is worlds better than the movie it came from... not that the movie reeked or anything... it was a wee bit too Speilburg-y in that most scenes had too much sand or fog or some such thing so that you had to squint to make sense of what you saw, plus I prefer the actors on the show to the actors on the movie. Mmm, Michael Shanks and RDA, how I missed you today.]

-Felt ill and weak, but got to lie around all day! Yay!

-Blew a hundred bucks on a good sewing machine... I know in the long run it will make me happy, but right now I'm too busy thinking about all the books I could have bought... all the DVDs...

-Finished "Jennifer Government," which left me pleasantly surprised. Very good, and all too plausible. Now I must search out other works by the author... Many thanks go out to Minty, because I had despaired of ever again reading a book that would actually keep me interested. I lurv ya! *huggles*

Dude, you finished it in one day?! While sick?!

Goodness.

But yeah, it's great, isn't it? He's only written one other book... Syrup, his first novel, also a satire about corporate powers and such, which he is attempting to adapt to a screenplay at the moment. Don't know how that's going. JG is also being adapted, not by him, and he is proud to say it will be a bad action sci-fi and this pleases him (he's such a cool dork). His third novel, Company, a satire about... corporate powers (woo!) is due out in March, I believe. Exciting!

Definitely check out his website. www.maxbarry.com ...it's so hilarious, he's such a great guy. Like a real person, really. Back when he wasn't months behind on responding to his fanmail, he actually replied in great detail. Whee! *lurves him*

Anyhoo, glad you enjoyed, read it again, and oh my goodness, can't you see Buy being played by Billy-Boyd-with-a-French-accent? :-P

That... would be awesome. And why is it that no one can make a good sci-fi movie out of an excellent sci-fi book? I wish to know. I also wish to know how he can stand someone else adapting his book! I'd probably blow a gasket were I in his position...

Dude, you finished it in one day?! While sick?!

Ahh... but it was such a good book! And I had nothing else to do! And it helped me keep my mind off of being all icky and sick! Many thanks!

And wow... my writing gets all weird and choppy and kinda English-as-a-second-language-sounding when I'm sick... :p

Gah. Urg. Bleah.

*sends healing vibes *

Waited for the mailman to bring my Stargate DVDs. They're coming from China, but apparently not today.

So sad. :(

Watched the Stargate movie

SQUEE!! I'm so proud of my minion. *g* We both saw the show before the movie, so I think that made a difference on how we viewed the movie. It's still good and important, but nothing beats RDA as Jack O'Neill. *happy fangirl sigh* Here, you can ogle my icon since you didn't get to see him in the movie...

*ogles icon*

*ogles some more*

I think my fav part about your icon is the pause on O'Neill. *fangirly sigh*

And what surprised me most about the movie was how simple its plot was. What? No parasites? No rounded characters? No DHD? No other staple of the SG-1 mentality that I can't think of because my brain is fried? And hee... Danny and I saw the MALP predecessor, and we both said, "Aw! Baby!MALP!" And... the movie was so predictable! Yeah, I know, I've heard enough stuff on the show and I've read enough fanfic to know some of the stuff that happens, but I was able to figure out all the minor plot points! Second I saw random good-looking kid walk toward camera back in BC, I KNEW he would end up as Ra. At least SG-1 keeps me guessing for the most part...

Sigh...

And thanks for the healing vibes... I'm feeling better now!

And sigh again... I wonder how long it takes for a package to come from China...

Sigh, indeed. I just learned how to animate text. That was my first icon with it. *pets icon*

Well, they had no idea there was going to be a series. They hadn't developed the Goa'uld race. I don't even think they were "symbiotes" then, just something that inhabited the boy's body. But then... The SG-1 people took over and made the whole arc awesome.

And thanks for the healing vibes... I'm feeling better now!

Oh, good! Because you know what we're going to be doing when we get back. ;) Have you finished S4?

[identity profile] stoopbeck.livejournal.com 2005-01-02 07:37 am (UTC)(link)

Actually... I think I finished up S5... I think. Think I can catch up in time to only be slightly confused when new eps come out? *crosses fingers*

Indeed. And they weren't symbiotes, they were some sort of alien thing that possesed you or something... But hey! Who cares about the movie's flaws, it brought us SG-1!

What?! You can't watch all of S5 without me! :'(

Well, new eps start on Jan. 21st. I'm really hoping to can catch up, at least somewhat, so I can let you start watching Atlantis. Hopefully, by the time I get back, I will have all the eps aired so far on CD, so we don't have to wait until they rerun. :D

WHEE!

That's the best news I've heard all week!

And about S5... now I'm not even sure I watched it all... hmm... We'll figure it out when we all get back, hopefully!

Whoa now...

[identity profile] stoopbeck.livejournal.com 2005-01-04 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
Wait... what season was... uh... the one in the future, with the aliens that had taken over everything secretly, and Carter couldn't have kids? That one? Because I know I was watching it when you went home... so I've either finished or pretty well near finished that season...

Sorry I'm so incoherent... hopefully you can understand my ramblings by now!
