My Adventure In the Woods
So. I worked today. While coming back from dumping a truckload of sticks, Mom took Taylor and me to look at the backroads. Lanark has a ton of random roads and trails, and they hadn't been checked since that tornado swept through. So we go on one trail, and it's pretty much okay. A few trees down, but other than that, okay. We go on another, there's a tree down right smack dab in the middle of the road, we back up for twenty feet, and go onto another trail. Then we get to a four-way fork thingie in the road.
Mom says, "Okay, one of these goes to a really steep hill that's almost too soft to drive on. We're not going to go on that one. I think this road is the one we need to go on."
Turns out, ironically, the road we took was the one with the hill. Of course, once we get to the bottom of the hill, we see the honking big tree blocking our exit. The only way to get out is to back in Mom's truck up the soft giant hill. The truck won't do it. It gets halfway and slides back down. So we spend twenty minutes figuring out how to turn the truck around without getting it even more stuck. Taylor was very helpful here. He may be spastic and frenetic, but he knows his cars. Once we got turned around, though, we still have the problem of the ginormous hill. If we can't get up the hill, we're going to have to walk back to the house and get one of the people there to tow us. And did I mention it's cold outside? And we're very far from the main building?
We finally got out, due to the heroic driving efforts of Mom. Yay adventure!
The best part? Taylor, Mom, and I all got paid to drive around in the woods for an hour. I love my job.
